Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan today (August 22) said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hand over certificates to 11 lakh new ‘Lakhpati Didis’ at a special function to be held in Jalgaon in Maharashtra on August 25 (Sunday).

The programme will have nationwide participation through virtual mode. The Prime Minister will release a revolving Community Investment Fund of Rs 2,500 crore, which will benefit about 480,000 members of 430,000 women self-help groups (SHGs), Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan also said that people from around 30,000 locations across 34 states and union territories, including state capitals and district headquarters, will join this programme through the virtual route.

He said that Lakhpati Didis are women who earn Rs 1 lakh or more per year. These Lakhpati Didis have not only lifted their families out of poverty but are also becoming role models for the rest of the society, the Union Minister claimed.

“The Ministry of Rural Development has already created 100,000 didis. Now our target is to create 300,000 didis in the next 3 years. It is heartening to note that one such community resource person has created 95,000 didis,” said Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

He further explained that the Ministry has adopted a structured process to enable SHG families to earn an annual income of Rs 100,000 or more. This includes training of national resource personnel and developing expert trainers in each state.

These expert trainers train community resource persons in business planning, financing and convergence process. The pool of 300,000 community resource persons, who have received special training in business planning and training of SHG members, are rendering a great service in this regard, the minister added.

Participation of some of these community professionals will also be facilitated. So far, the Ministry of Rural Development has trained 15 lakh lakhpati Didis during the first 100 days, which has surpassed the target of 11 lakh for the period, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.
