A 48-year-old man, who was prohibited from possessing weapons because of his criminal record, killed himself after fatally shooting five people, police said. The violence began after the man had an argument with an ex-girlfriend. Among the victims at the apartment complex were a neighbor who tried to help and the neighbor’s mother and grandmother.
FORDYCE, ARKANSAS: June 21
A 44-year-old man shot several people in the parking lot before turning the gun on more people inside the Mad Butcher grocery store, killing four. Police said he did not appear to have any connection to the victims. The shooting happened at midday in Fordyce, about 65 miles (105 kilometers) south of Little Rock.

Police said three men wearing dark masks got out of a silver Kia and opened fire at an outdoor party in central California, killing three men and a woman and wounding seven others. The shooting occurred on a street lined with modest homes across from a business district in King City, near Pinnacles National Park.

Authorities said a 39-year-old woman intentionally set fire to her home to kill herself and her four children, ages 2, 5, 9 and 10. Investigators believe the mother set fire to a mattress and left a note saying she intended to kill herself and her children, police said. Firefighters who responded to the scene found the house engulfed in flames. Neighbors tried to save the family, but the fire was too intense.
