Electric Waveone of the biggest players in India’s electric vehicle market, was recently embroiled in fresh controversy when media reports relating to the build-up of service charges for the electric vehicle maker were published earlier this month. While this is not exactly a surprise as issues in Ola’s EV services have been reported several times in the past. Now, to resolve the service concerns, the company has made a new announcement regarding the expansion of its service facilities.
The company has launched a new EV servicing training program under its ‘Network Partner Programme’ to equip over 1 lakh third-party mechanics with the skills required to service EVs across India .
In a recently shared press release, the company mentioned that starting October 10, 2024, it will introduce a gradual implementation of its fast service guarantee. Customers whose service takes more than a day will receive a complimentary Ola S1 scooter as a backup. Additionally, the company also promised that its Ola Care+ subscribers will enjoy the added benefit of free Ola Cabs coupons until their service is completed.
Ola Current Capacity: Ola Electric operates on a direct-to-consumer model, overseeing a network of over 500 experience centers and 431 service stations across the country. These service points operate on a hub and spoke model, with larger service centers in major cities equipped with comprehensive spare parts and smaller contact points within the experience centres.
Now what Ola hopes to achieve is to expand this network to 10,000 partners in sales and services by the end of 2025, according to the latest press release.
Speaking on the announcement, Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Ola Electric, said, “In the last 3 years, we have built a 7L+ community and leading market position. We have close to 800 sales outlets, but only around 500 service centers With the launch of #HyperService we are expanding our network and also creating best-in-class ownership experience with on-demand and AI-based service.”
Have Ola Electric sales been affected?
While Ola EV sales have remained mostly in the green, especially in recent years, in August 2024, the Ola S1 series saw a sharp decline, reaching its lowest monthly volume of 27,506 units, a significant drop of 34% since July. This crisis also contributed to a cut in Ola’s market share within the electric two-wheeled vehicle segment, from 39% to 31%.
