The Australian cricket team recorded their 14th consecutive ODI win with a massive 68-run triumph against England in Leeds on Sunday. Extending their winning streak from the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup in India, the Australian team now boasts the most consecutive ODI wins among current teams.
Captain Mitchell Marsh and goalkeeper Alex Carey He scored a brilliant fifty to help Australia post a challenging total of 270 and then returning quick bowlers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood shone with the ball to leave the Three Lions all out for 202.
After failing to defend 315 runs in the opener, England’s bowlers showed an improved performance to bowl out the world champions for 270. Brydon Carse took three wickets while Matthews Potts, Adil Rashid and Jacob Bethell took two each for the hosts. Carey top-scored with 74 runs in just 67 balls to take Australia from 221/9 to a challenging total of 270.
England never looked like having the momentum to chase down the target as they lost the first five wickets with just 65 runs on the board. Wicketkeeper-batsman Jamie Smith top-scored with 49 runs to show some resilience but England were bowled out for just 202 in 40.2 overs. Starc claimed three wickets on his return to the team while Hazlewood, Hardie and Maxwell secured one each for Australia.
In the record for most consecutive ODI wins, Australia surpassed Sri Lanka’s tally set by last year and are now just seven wins shy of their historic 21-match winning streak set in 2003, which came under legendary captain Ricky Ponting.

Adil Rashid makes history for England
In another significant milestone during the second ODI match, veteran spinner Adil Rashid became the first English spin bowler to pick up 200 wickets in ODIs on Saturday. Rashid also became the fastest England bowler to register 200 wickets in ODI cricket in just 131 innings.
Meanwhile, Australia recorded their eighth consecutive ODI win against England, dating back to September 2020. With three more games remaining in the series, Mitchell Marsh’s side will look to continue their dream run ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
