Tell us about your hometown and your first memories of the place.

Bikaner is my hometown and though I don’t have very vivid memories of my early years there, there is a lot to tell. It is a small city, but architecturally it is stunning. One of Rajasthan’s hidden gems is the Durga Ghar, a beautiful but under-explored place, probably due to the city’s limited connectivity. But when you behold the grandeur of the forts, they are nothing short of breathtaking – truly magnificent, like something from another world. I also remember the sand dunes from my teenage years. They are beautiful and I spent many weekends there, enjoying the serene evenings. Bikaner may not have any standout attractions that are widely known, but it has its quiet and unassuming charm.

Do you find inspiration for your designs while traveling?

Architecture has always been a source of inspiration for me, no matter where I am in the world or what part of India I am exploring. Every place has its own story told through its structures. My designs, including the Johri Bazaar collection, are deeply influenced by the architectural beauty of Rajasthan and Jaipur. But beyond that, every time I travel, my fascination with architecture grows. Everything from the colours to the intricate carvings sparks my creativity. It is the artistry and detail of architecture that continually fuels my imagination.

How crucial a role did Jaipur’s Johri Bazaar play in your latest collection?

I often find myself strolling through Johari Bazaar, a place that feels as familiar to me as my own skin. The ancient city of Jaipur has a timeless charm that draws me back again and again, like an unspoken bond. There are a few local restaurants that I frequent, places where the food always delights me. Usually, these outings feel routine, a comforting part of my life. But that particular evening felt different, as if something had changed in the air. I’ve come to realize that, day by day, we often fall into a kind of trance, becoming blind to the beauty around us. We stop seeing things and the magic of the world fades into the background of our busy minds. That evening, however, everything seemed to fall into place. The energies around me were charged and my mood lifted. Johari Bazaar, a place I thought I knew so well, appeared in a whole new light. It wasn’t that anything specific stood out, but everything seemed to glow with a new vitality because, for once, I was really paying attention to the beauty that had always been there.

What makes Jaipur so important to you?

I often say that we are a brand that proudly represents Rajasthan and Jaipur because my journey really began in Jaipur almost two decades ago. Everything about this city has been, and continues to be, a constant source of inspiration for me. I always feel like I am sitting on a goldmine – I don’t need to look elsewhere for ideas. Jaipur offers endless beauty and creativity and whether I am actively designing or not, I find inspiration in everything around me. I store those moments in my mind and keep them as creative fuel for future collections when the time is right.

Your favorite travel destinations

I wouldn’t say I have any particular favourites, but I love coming back to Spain, especially Ibiza. It’s been my favourite summer resort for many years. Greece is another place I love; I’m definitely drawn to islands. Every summer, I go back to these island destinations because they appeal to me. I’m not a very urban person; the tranquillity of the islands is where I feel most at home.

Is there any city that you consider to be particularly avant-garde in terms of fashion?

We all know that Paris is synonymous with impeccable style, and it’s true: every person who walks past you seems effortlessly chic. But I have to say that Berlin also stands out for me because of its fashion sensibility. The people there have a unique sense of style that I find incredibly inspiring. So while Paris remains a classic when it comes to fashion, Berlin definitely has its own personal style.

What are your top tips for packing and travelling in style and comfort? Do you have any fashion items that you always carry with you?

I am very particular about my jackets, they are an absolute necessity for me. No matter where I travel, be it a warm or cold destination, there are a couple of jackets that I always pack in my suitcase. They are my favorite outerwear and an essential part of my wardrobe. Sneakers are of course another staple. When I travel, I prefer to carry a large backpack as I tend to carry quite a bit of luggage. I try to fit as much as I can into it. My travel essentials always include a little perfume because I am very particular about fragrances, along with chargers, airpods, earplugs, and sanitizers. Plus, I never travel without my stash of nuts and mints. All these little things are what make my trips feel complete.

Recommend three destinations to someone interested in understanding India’s textile traditions

First of all, without a doubt, would be Jaipur. Then I would say Lucknow and of course Varanasi. So yes, my top three would be Jaipur, Varanasi and Lucknow.

Where would you go to relax from the cacophony of the fashion business?

If I needed to escape the noise and chaos of the fashion world, I would head straight to Goa.
