DUSU Election: Various student organisations are campaigning vigorously for the Delhi University Students’ Union elections. Sangh-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Left student organisations have released their manifestos to win the elections. All student organisations are carrying out large-scale public relations campaigns to woo students. The university on Monday issued a notification regarding damage to public and private properties during the students’ union elections, asking all candidates to strictly follow the Lyngdoh Committee’s recommendations. Chief Electoral Officer Prof Satyapal Singh said the DUSU election office is keeping a close watch on the display of banners, posters and the number of vehicles used by various candidates in rallies and other modes of campaigning.
Strict measures will be taken if the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations are violated.
In the notification issued by Chief Electoral Officer Prof Satyapal Singh, it is said that the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee should be strictly followed. Candidates have been instructed via email that all candidates should remove banners and posters bearing their name and ballot number within 24 hours of receiving the mail. If this is not done, legal action will be taken. All candidates contesting the DUSU 2024-25 elections must abide by the code of conduct, Lyngdoh Committee guidelines, NGT orders, Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Properties Act, 2007 (Delhi Act 1 of 2009) and Prevention of Defacement of Properties in National Capital Territory of Delhi. And any act related to the same in the DUSU elections is advised to be strictly followed. Failure to do so may result in penalties including cancellation of nomination of the candidates.
