President Yoon Seok-yeol and First Lady Kim Kun-hee, who are visiting Turkmenistan, strengthened their friendship by talking with the Supreme Leader of Turkmenistan on the issue of national dogs of the two countries on the 11th (local time ).

According to the Presidential Office, that day President Yoon and his wife had lunch with Supreme Leader Berdymuhamedov and his wife as the last part of their trip to Turkmenistan. Mrs. Kim, who had a separate social moment with Supreme Leader Berdymuhamedov’s wife before lunch, mentioned a conversation that took place the day before at a state banquet hosted by Supreme Leader Berdymuhamedov’s son, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and his wife.

First Lady Kim said that President Berdimukhamedov and his wife directly introduced Turkmenistan’s national dog, Alabai, to President Yoon and his wife. She said: “I was very touched by the careful consideration of President Berdimukhamedov and his wife in preparing to meet three 40-day-old Alabai dogs at the site.”

Then, at a state banquet, First Lady Kim presented the Jindo dog, the Korean national dog, to President Berdymuhamedov and his wife, saying that both national dogs are alike in that they are strong and brave.

In response, Mrs. Kim replied, “I feel very honored to have been given Alabai, a treasure of Turkmenistan,” adding, “I will appreciate it as a sign of cooperation between the two countries and will work harder to strengthen animal protection.” . “

Supreme Leader Berdimukhamedov also gifted an Alabai puppy to Russian President Vladimir Putin during his presidency in 2017. Alabai is the representative sheepdog of Turkmenistan. He is big, strong and has great endurance, so he plays an important role in nomadic life. A 6m tall statue of Alabai is installed in the capital city of Ashgabat, and the last Sunday of October each year is designated as “Alabai Day” to commemorate the day.
