Currently, England is taking on Sri Lanka in the first Test match of the three-match series at the iconic Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. On the second day of the match, a surprise connection of India was seen in this game as Harry Singhson of a former fast bowler of the Indian cricket team named RP Singh He took to the field for the Three Lions.
Harry Singh, who plays for Lancashire in the first class, was selected to play as the 12th player along with his county teammates Charlie Bernard and Kesh Fonseca. He came on to the field as a substitute shortly after England decided to bowl first on the first day. He returned once again in the second session of the first day in the 37th over when Harry Brook left the field.
Harry’s father, RP Singh, was a former left-arm fast bowler who played for India in two ODIs against Australia in 1986. He had a solid first-class career in which he played 50 matches for Uttar Pradesh and took 150 wickets. He also scored 1413 runs with the bat and has a century to his name.
Harry Singh is a spin bowling all-rounder who is just 20 years old. He has not played for Lancashire in the senior domestic circuit for a long time. He made his List A debut in the 2024 One Day Cup and played just 7 matches. So far, he has scored 87 runs and taken 2 wickets with the ball.
Harry Singh was selected for England’s Under-19 squad for their home series against Sri Lanka. He signed a rookie contract with Lancashire at the age of 18 and after that, in an interview on the club’s official social media, he spoke about his journey with them.
“I started playing cricket at the age of four, joined the Lancashire prep system at eight and have been at the Lancs Academy since I was 15, so it’s been a long journey for me to get to this point,” he said.
