Adding a new milestone to its tourism feat, Sikkim has inaugurated the Dhapper-Bale-Dhunga ropeway in Yangang, which will be the longest of its kind in India. The ropeway became operational on September 16, with a ceremonial first ride attended by several prominent personalities including Deputy Speaker of Sikkim Assembly Rajkumari Thapa, former Chief Minister’s Press Secretary Vikas Basnet, District Panchayat KD Khaple and other prominent party workers and staff members.
Vice President Thapa praised Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for the role he played in the completion of the ambitious project. She acknowledged how the Dhapper-Bale-Dhunga ropeway had been revitalised under the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government, marking a significant achievement for the state.
“The Dhapper-Bale-Dhunga ropeway is not only a testimony to our dedication to boosting tourism but also a historic milestone for the people of Sikkim,” Thapa said. With this, he also expressed his deep gratitude to Chief Minister Tamang for his immense fortune.
The cable car covers a huge distance and offers breathtaking views. It also promises to improve the tourism industry in Yangang. Travelers will have to pay an amount of Rs 950 to travel on the cable car.
Tourism in Sikkim
The government has been trying to expand the tourism industry in Sikkim for some time now. This development comes soon after it was announced that all tourist vehicles entering Sikkim will be required to carry a large garbage bag, as per an official order. The state receives over 20 lakh visitors every year, according to officials. According to the order issued by the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, the decision has been taken to ensure community participation in achieving the goal of environmental sustainability.
According to PTI, the order says the responsibility of informing the traveller about the use of garbage bags for waste disposal will be on tour operators, travel agencies and vehicle drivers.
Sikkim, with just 600,000 people, is India’s least populous state. It receives more than 200,000 visitors each year for its picturesque Himalayan destinations, officials said.
