Iran has just displayed its new long-range ballistic missile and its kamikaze drone during a major parade organised by the country’s armed forces, according to the semi-official Fars news agency. This parade took place at the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, in southern Tehran. It marked the start of the Holy Defence Week, which pays tribute to the eight-year war between Iran and Iraq that began in the 1980s.
The Jahad ballistic missile and Shahed-136B drone were unveiled for the first time at the event. The Jahad missile is a single-stage, solid-fuel-powered weapon capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 1,000 kilometers with impressive accuracy. The missile was developed by the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Xinhua reported.
The Shahed 136B drone, which is powered by a turbojet engine, can destroy targets located more than 2,500 kilometers away. Like the missile, it was also designed and built by the IRGC Aerospace Force.
During the parade, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that Iran is ready to defend itself and promote peace and security in the West Asian region by fostering unity and cooperation with other Muslim nations. He said: “Today, Iran’s defense and deterrence power has increased to such a level that no demon dares to perpetrate any act of aggression against the country, or even thinks about it,” according to a statement from his office.
