Raul Gandhi He has sparked another controversy by blaming the Indian Railways for caste differentiation. Rahul’s recent statement has sparked a controversy, with netizens accusing him of unnecessarily sowing division among Indians. In one of his interactions with railway workers, Gandhi seemingly equated loco pilots with Mahadalits, implying a direct link between job roles within the railways and caste-based discrimination. This logic not only misrepresents the complexities of the Indian Railways workforce but also perpetuates a divisive narrative that many consider counterproductive.
“I feel the caste system has been maintained, upar…upar…upar Raja Maharaja and then Ahistey, Ahistey has been created a separate caste and his name has been changed… he has been made a loco pilot, he has been made a trackman. Railways ke Mahadalit ho aap, (Railways has segregated work into caste divisions. Loco pilots and trackmen are Mahadalit of the Railways),” Rahul says in the video.
The railways, one of the largest employers in the country, employs people from diverse backgrounds and castes. Suggesting that certain jobs are linked to particular caste identities misrepresents the functioning of this institution and undermines the railways’ recruitment process.
Rather than fostering unity, such comments can potentially deepen social divisions by reinforcing caste-based stereotypes. Many argue that instead of making sweeping generalisations about caste discrimination, leaders should focus on promoting meritocracy and equal opportunities, emphasising unity rather than fanning the flames of division. This is not the first instance where Rahul’s comments have defied logic.
