Star Indian cricketer Sanju Samson replaced the injured Ishan Kishan in the India D squad for the 2024 Duleep Trophy on Wednesday, September 4. Kishan, who is suffering from a groin injury, will miss the first-round match against India C that begins on Thursday in Ananthapur.

The BCCI confirmed the inclusion of Sanju Samson in Team D and also gave an update on the unavailability of Suryakumar Yadav and Prasidh Krishna for the first round. Young all-rounder Nitish Reddy has been declared fit to feature in Team B in the first-round clash.

“Wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury sustained during the ongoing All-India Buchi Babu Tournament,” a BCCI statement said. “The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his condition and working towards ensuring a speedy recovery.

“Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna is close to completing his rehabilitation following surgery on his left quadriceps tendon and will miss the first round game of the Duleep Trophy. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been cleared to play and will be available for selection.”

Suryakumar Yadav suffered a thumb injury during the recent Buchi Babu tournament and is unlikely to be part of the Indian squad for the upcoming Tests against Bangladesh. The BCCI statement added that the medical team is assessing his injury and will decide whether he will participate in the second round of the 2024 Duleep Trophy.

“Batsman Suryakumar Yadav will also be unavailable for the first round of the Duleep Trophy after suffering a sprained right thumb while participating in the All-India Buchi Babu Tournament,” the statement added. “The BCCI medical team is still assessing his injury and a further assessment next week will determine his availability for the second round.”

India D’s updated squad: Shreyas Lyer (C), Atharva Taide, Yash Dubey, Devdutt Padikkal, Ricky Bhui, Saransh Jain, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Aditya Thakare, Harshit Rana, Tushar Deshpande, Akash Sengupta, KS Bharat (WK), Saurabh Kumar, Sanju Samson (WK).
