Remove lipstick stains from clothes
Lipstick Stains are some of the most annoying to remove from clothing. They can be quite difficult due to all the oils and pigments in the formula. However, with the right approach, you can effectively treat and remove these stubborn marks.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you combat lipstick stains on your shirts:
Don’t go blind
Before you begin, check the care label on your clothing for specific washing instructions or temperature settings. This method is best suited for fabrics that can be machine washed.
act quickly
Time is of the essence when it comes to lipstick stains. The sooner you start the removal process, the better your chances of success. Delaying treatment allows oils to soak into the fabric, making the stain more difficult to remove.
Remove excess lipstick
Using a dull knife or the edge of a debit card, gently scrape excess lipstick from the fabric. Be careful not to rub the stain, as this can push the lipstick deeper into the fibers.
Apply dish soap
Take a teaspoon of liquid dish soap and, if possible, apply it directly to the stained area on both sides of the fabric. Let the soap sit for about 30 minutes without scrubbing.
Soak in soapy water
Prepare a soaking solution by mixing a drop of dish soap with warm water in a bowl or bucket, following the temperature recommendations on the care label. Soak the stained garment for at least an hour, or ideally overnight, for best results.
Rub gently
After soaking, use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently scrub the stain, starting from the outer edges and working inward to prevent it from spreading further. Rinse the fabric well to ensure all the soap is removed.
machine wash
Wash the garment in your washing machine at the warmest temperature recommended by the care label. You can enhance the cleaning process by using laundry detergent or oxygen bleach. If none are available, adding ½ cup of baking soda may also help.
If the stain is still visible, do not hesitate to repeat the previous steps until the lipstick is completely removed. However, if the stain persists, it may be time to take the shirt to the dry cleaners!
