US company partners with Saankhya Labs to launch affordable D2M-powered mobiles

A US-based company has partnered with an Indian firm Saankhya Laboratories and a startup incubated at IIT, Kanpur, to design and launch value-for-money mobile phones with enhanced Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) capabilities.

Based in the USA Sinclair Company Inc.Saankhya Labs and Free Stream Technologies Private Limited, a startup incubated at IIT-Kanpur, are commencing consumer trials for multimedia delivery and data streaming use cases.

Consumer trials will be conducted on a variety of D2M devices including smartphones, USB adapter accessories, set-top boxes and gateways and also low-cost feature phones, Bengaluru-based Saankhya Labs said in a statement.

“We expect to launch these devices for testing in the first half of 2025. This competitive market segment is expected to yield affordable handsets for the Indian and global markets,” said Chris Ripley, President and CEO of Sinclair Inc.

The value-for-money handsets will be powered by Saankhya’s Pruthvi-3 ATSC 3.0 chipsets.

“For rapid proliferation of the device ecosystem, we are actively working with multiple mobile device vendors to develop solutions that integrate our award-winning software-defined radio (SDR) chipsets,” said Parag Naik, Founder and CEO of Saankhya Labs.
