New Delhi: The Central government has announced an increase in minimum wages by revising the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA). The new wage rates will come into effect from October 1, 2024.
The Ministry of Labor and Employment has said its adjustment is aimed at helping workers cope with the rising cost of living, particularly those in the unorganized sector.
Minimum wage rates are classified by skill levels (unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled), as well as by geographic area (A, B and C).
How much salary will level A, B and C workers receive after the variable dearness allowance increase?

VDA rates for employees employed in loading and unloading in (i) freight warehouses, railway parcel offices, (iil other freight warehouses, warehouses, warehouses and other similar jobs; small docks and ports; and (ivl passengers and freight ). and Cargo Made in Alrports (both international and domestic).

The Central Government reviews the VDA twice a year, starting from April 1 and October 1, based on the semi-annual average increase in the Consumer Price Index for industrial workers.
