Assiduous (Adjectives)

Meaning: show great care and perseverance

Example: You have been very assiduous in your research.

bay (verb)

Meaning: (of a dog, especially a large one) barks or howls loudly

Example: a pack of wolves howling at the moon.

defeat (verb)

Meaning: to surround (a place) with armed forces to capture it or force its surrender/crowd in an oppressive manner; surround and harass

Example: The king marched north to besiege Berwick.

clique (noun)

Meaning: A small group of people with shared interests or tastes, especially one that is exclusive to other people.

Example: He has numerous homes in several countries and embraces a circle of famous friends.

Dichotomy (noun)

Meaning: a division or contrast between two things that are or are represented as opposite or completely different.

Example: in each dichotomy, the presumed size of the ancestral genome was indicated

Substitute (Adjective)

Esoteric (Adjective)

Meaning: intended or likely to be understood only by a small number of people with specialized knowledge or interest.

Example: Although the text is more accessible, it also loses its mysterious and esoteric qualities.

Fetid (adjective)

Meaning: smell extremely unpleasant

Example: The foul water of the swamp

Ignorable (Adjective)

Meaning: not honorable in character or purpose

Example: ignoble feelings of intense jealousy.
