Vodafone Idea said on Sunday that it has awarded contracts worth around ₹30,000 crore to Nokia, Ericsson and Samsung for supply of 4G and 5G network equipment over three years.
The agreement is the first step towards the implementation of the company’s three-year capital investment (capex) plan of approximately USD 6.6 billion or ₹55,000 crore previously announced.
“Vodafone Idea has closed a mega operation worth around 3.6 billion dollars (around 3 billion euros) ₹“The company has signed a $300 billion capital investment agreement with Nokia, Ericsson and Samsung for the supply of network equipment over a three-year period. The capital investment program is aimed at expanding 4G population coverage from 1.03 billion to 1.2 billion, launching 5G in key markets and expanding capacity in line with data growth,” the company said in a statement.
Supplies of these new long-term awards will begin in the next quarter.
The company’s top priority is to expand 4G coverage to 1.2 billion Indians, the statement said.
