CBSE changed the pattern of writing date of birth and issued instructions to schools, Career News

The Central Board of Secondary Education will start the registration process for the annual examinations for the academic year 2025-26. Earlier, the board had issued several guidelines for the students of classes 9 and 11. The board has changed the way of writing the date of birth of the students who are enrolling. The notification related to this was issued by the board on Friday. According to the notification, now the students will have to enter the date of birth and year in numbers and the month of birth in letters. This pattern will not only be effective in registration but will also be applicable in the application forms and certificates to be filled for the examination. According to this, if the date of birth of a student is 1st February 2005, then he/she will write it as 01-FEB-2005. Written on 02-01-2005 will be considered incorrect.

Commenting on this decision by the board, Satish Kumar of Sahodaya, an organisation of CBSE affiliated schools in the district, said that earlier there used to be a lot of problems when the full date of birth was recorded in numbers. There was difficulty in understanding the day and month due to writing in numbers. In some places in the country there is a tendency to write it in DD-MM-YY format and in other places in MM-DD-YY format. Now in the new system there will be no confusion regarding the date of birth.

Kumar said the board has made many other changes this time. Once the data is completed and submitted to the board, no corrections can be made in the same. Till now, schools used to make changes from date of birth to name on the request of students or their parents before the exam. Due to this, the board had to face many problems while correcting the data. Now the board has directed to allow any kind of changes only after the results of the exams are communicated.
