Heavy rains in Rajasthan have killed 15 people in several districts. The fatalities occurred in Bharatpur, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Jodhpur and Banswara, and several people are missing.
Bharatpur: Seven youth drown while recording videos for social media
The worst tragedy occurred in Bharatpur, where seven youths aged between 14 and 22 drowned. The victims, all from Srinagar village, had gone to a river to bathe and create videos for social media when the water level rose unexpectedly. Despite efforts by villagers to rescue them, the strong current proved fatal. The bodies were later recovered and taken to local hospitals and morgues.
Jhunjhunu: Three young men drown in a temple pond
In another incident in Jhunjhunu, three youths from Sanwalod village drowned in a pond near the Mehrana Mata temple. According to media reports, they had gone to bathe in the pond after visiting the temple, despite warnings about the dangers of the pond. Unfortunately, they could not be saved in time.
Three more people lost their lives in similar drowning incidents in Karauli, Jodhpur and Banswara, further increasing the death toll due to the current severe weather conditions.
Kanota Dam: Five youths missing
In Jaipur, five youths went missing after getting trapped in the waters of the Kanota dam. Search operations began on Sunday afternoon, but the victims have not yet been located.
Heavy rains over the past two days caused major overflows at the Panchana Dam in Bharatpur, forcing the opening of six gates of the dam. The sudden rise in water level trapped many local residents, including the victims, on a small island. The strong current thwarted rescue attempts, leading to tragic loss of lives.
Official confirmation
District Collector Amit Yadav confirmed the identities of the seven youths who drowned in Bharatpur: Pawan Jatav (20), Saurabh Jatav (14), Bhupendra Jatav (18), Shantanu Jatav (18), Lucky Jatav (20), Pawan Singh Jatav (22) and Gaurav Jatav (16).
