Amethi: In a horrific incident, an 18-year-old woman filed a complaint alleging that she was raped multiple times when she refused a forced religious conversion.
The 18-year-old woman is a resident of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and claimed she was being forcibly converted to Islam.
Amethi woman alleges rape and forced religious conversion
An 18-year-old woman was allegedly raped and forced to convert to Islam here, police said Sunday.
The incident took place in the Ramganj police station area on July 5 and the woman lodged a complaint on Saturday.
She alleged that one of the accused tricked her into signing some papers to convert to Islam, station house officer (SHO) Yajendra Patel said.
“The woman said that when she refused to convert to Islam, the accused raped her several times,” he said.
Criminal records are registered against 5 people and 3 arrested
Based on the woman’s complaint, an FIR was registered against five persons under relevant sections of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act on Saturday, the SHO said.
Police have arrested three people in this matter, whose identities have not been revealed.

In another related news, a nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in the city area on Saturday. The girl, who lives with her widowed mother, was alone in the house when the 25-year-old neighbour entered the property and raped her. He fled after the crime and the girl was found writhing in pain.
Additional Superintendent of Police Chiranjivi Nath Singh said police managed to admit the girl to a hospital.
