Two civilians were killed and a third wounded when a bomb launched by the Islamic State group exploded in Salahuddin province, north of Baghdad, according to a provincial police official.
The blast occurred on Saturday near a civilian car traveling on a desert road connecting the city of Baiji in Salahuddin province with the city of Haditha in Anbar province, Xinhua news agency reported.
The blast destroyed the car, killing two of its occupants and wounding a third, according to Mohammed al-Bazi of the Salahuddin police command press office.
Despite improvements in security since ISIL’s defeat in 2017, remnants of the group continue to carry out guerrilla attacks in Iraq, infiltrating urban centers, deserts and rugged areas, and attacking both security forces and civilians.
