In April 2012, when Damayanti Sen, an IPS officer, received a transfer order, she was shocked as she did not know what had happened. Sen was in the headlines of Kolkata media at that time. He was the one who cracked the Park Street rape case. Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dayamanti Sen of Kolkata Police was removed from that post and posted as DIG (Training) at the Police Training College, Barrackpore.

What was her mistake? In fact, she had shown the courage to refute the claims of the then new Chief Minister. It has not even been a year since Mamata Banerjee came to the Writers’ Building (Secretariat of the Government of West Bengal) and then dismissed the rape case as ‘Shajano Ghotona’ i.e. a fake incident and claimed that it was ‘defaming her new government’. It was a ‘fabricated incident’.

Mamta has already dismissed many rape cases

Didi (Mamata Banerjee) probably didn’t like Dayamanti Sen investigating the Park Street gangrape case, cracking the case and arresting the five culprits. Sen had gone against the CM here because no one would go against Didi. That was in 2012 and now it’s 2024. That means not much has changed even in 12 years.

During Banerjee’s rule, cases like Hanskhali, Kamduni, Kakdweep, Ranaghat, Siuri, Sandeshkhali emerged. She had dismissed the Hanskhali rape incident as an “affair” while she had described the protesters in Kamduni as “CPI(M) supporters” because these protesters had raised questions about crimes against women. In May-June 2021, she remained silent when rape complaints were suppressed in police stations across Bengal.

Now, when Kolkata is in the news for yet another rape and murder case, when protesters are protesting for justice, Mamata Banerjee is protesting against the protests. Don’t you wonder who her protest was against? Do you also think that he does not control the power of the state?

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien, who has always defended Banerjee’s excesses and shortcomings, says, “Justice will be done only when the CBI nabs all those involved and sends the case to a fast-track court. That means the blame fell on CBI. Conveniently, the state government has washed its hands of the young doctor’s blood. The Chief Minister, along with all his MLAs and MPs, protested against his government for not resolving the matter. Because no one can troll like Didi.

When Mamta linked rape with an affair

For example, take April 2022. A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Nadia. The girl died. Do you know what CM Mamata Banerjee said after that? The CM said, “A minor is said to have died due to rape, will you call it rape? Was she pregnant or was she in a love affair? Have you questioned her? I have asked the police. They have arrested her. “They told me that the girl was having an affair with the boy.” The thing to note is that the accused was allegedly the son of a local veteran TMC leader.

Then in 2013, the Kamduni gangrape happened. When Banerjee went to Kamduni 10 days after the incident, she had to face a mob of angry women. One of the women shouted at them, “Have you come here to show your face?” This question was put to Mamta a few days before the Panchayat election campaign and Didi once again began to smell the scent of a conspiracy against her government.

Then Mamata Banerjee said, “The people here support the CPM. I am sorry to say that the CPM is playing politics. All the goons arrested for rape and murder were CPM supporters. Chor-er ma- Er Boro Gola (The mother of the robber shouts in the loudest voice).” Banerjee spat at the crowd before getting into her car. The crowd was not in a mood to forgive. Everyone knew that the main accused was a relative of the TMC Panchayat Pradhan.

Rape tops Mamata Banerjee’s diary of gaffes. Especially if someone from her party is guilty. During her years in power, Mamata Banerjee has declared many rape cases false year after year. She herself becomes a victim when, as a woman leader, she is asked to answer about rape cases. If the opposition asks questions, she makes counter-accusations.

Even in the case of RG tax, when conspiracy theories are spreading rapidly and names of powerful people are being whispered, women are shouting, blowing conch shells, marching with candles and demanding justice from the state government; then Mamata Banerjee’s reaction is exactly like the textbook Banerjee. Before anyone blames you, declare yourself a victim. It is a fact that this is not a fake incident.
