The Yamaha YZF-R1 now has winglets on the latest generation
Yamaha The YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M have been two of the most loved motorcycles among enthusiasts for years. The credit for this popularity can certainly be attributed to the twin headlight design that brought the powerful Japanese machine into the spotlight. Recently, superbike fans have been going through ups and downs and a rather confusing time due to the status of the bike in the international market as the road version was recently discontinued in the European market due to emission norms. At the time of the announcement, the bike was still available as a track version in the US market.
Considering the aforementioned situation, the future of the upcoming generations seemed uncertain. However, there is now clarity as Yamaha has announced the 2025 version of the YZF-R1 and the YZF-R1M with a track-only version in Europe and the road-legal versions in the US. Along with it, the brand has revealed all the details of the upcoming bikes, and here is all the information you need.
At first glance, the changes may not seem very significant when comparing the last generation with the 2024 version. However, the Japanese manufacturer has made multiple important changes that riders will appreciate. For example, braking was one of the aspects that held the bike up against its rivals. The brand has taken note of the situation and now offers radially mounted four-piston Brembo Stylema front calipers and a Brembo master cylinder.
Following the current trend of improving aerodynamics, Yamaha has now added winglets to the R1. This is a major change and draws a lot of attention to the front end of the superbike. Moving forward, the R1 now has conventionally adjustable KYB 43 mm suspension. Meanwhile, the R1M is equipped with Ohlins Dynamic electronic racing suspension.
Aside from the changes mentioned above, both the Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M retain the 998cc CP4 interplane engine along with the electronics package. This is the same type of engine that made its debut on the 2015 version of the bike.
To emphasise the exclusivity of the Yamaha YZF-R1M, the brand is offering a full carbon fibre bodywork on the superbike along with an exclusive colour scheme. The YZF-R1, meanwhile, comes in Team Yamaha Blue with the option of matte black.
