A preliminary 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck the south California On Monday afternoon, a tremor occurred that was felt throughout the region. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) initially reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.7. The quake occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. and its epicenter was located about 4 kilometers south-southeast of Highland Park near Chinatown.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located 12 kilometers below the surface. Los Angeles Hundreds of people in the region reported feeling the shaking, according to the USGS “Feelings Report.” KTLA viewers reported that the quakes were felt from the west side of Los Angeles to the Inland Empire and beyond.

Following the earthquake, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) activated its “earthquake mode.” As part of this approach, employees from each of the LAFD’s 106 neighborhood stations inspected their respective areas in depth. The goals were to detect damage to infrastructure in the region and address the issues. It was estimated that it would take one hour to complete the inspection.
There were no reports of significant damage, according to Margaret Stewart of the LAFD, who spoke to KTLA. The U.S. Tsunami Warning System was not activated, according to the National Weather Service, meaning there was no risk of a tsunami as a result of the quake.
Emergency services responded immediately to the incident, however preliminary assessments suggested there was little damage to infrastructure.
