The world’s number 1 T20I batsman Travis Head He gave another timely reminder to England of why he is known as one of the most destructive batsmen. Head scored a mammoth 30 runs in one over against Sam Curranincluding a hat-trick of sixes in what was a display of absolute dominance.
The incident took place in the fifth over of Australia’s innings during the first T20I between England and the Australians in Southampton.
After winning the toss, England captain Phil Salt decided to bowl first but the decision backfired as Travis Head scored fifty runs in 19 balls to put England in trouble. Travis scored 59 runs in 23 balls, including 8 boundaries and 4 sixes, three of which came in a single over off Curran.
Having started the innings strongly, Travis Head hit a boundary between deep extra cover and a long out to welcome Curran in the fifth over. On the next ball, the Australian opener sliced the ball towards deep mid-wicket for another boundary, followed by three consecutive sixes.
Head smashed another boundary to close the over on 30 runs, leaving Curran completely devastated.

The 30-year-old’s blitzkrieg helped propel Australia to a fight-worthy total of 179 runs in 19.3 overs. Besides Head, Matthew Short scored 41, Josh Inglis also contributed 37 runs with the bat. Liam Livingstone took three wickets while Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood picked up two wickets each.
England, in reply, could only score 151 runs in the chase, falling 28 runs short. Livingstone again rose to the occasion, scoring 37 for 27 runs, but none of the other batsmen rose to the occasion.
Sean Abbott took three trophies while Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa picked up two wickets each to help the Australians limit England and record a series-opening victory. Australia leads 1-0 and the second T20I will be played at Sophia Gardens on Friday, September 13.
