11 September reminds the world of the terrible terrorist attacks perpetrated in the United States in 2001. However, history contains a lot important events that happened around the world on this date. Swami Vivekanand’s iconic Chicago speech was delivered on September 11, 1893. Also, India celebrates Radha Ashtami Day on September 11, 2024, and devotees observe fasts to celebrate the day. September 11 also marks the death anniversary of the “founder of Pakistan” Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who died in 1942. Legendary Jamaican singer, songwriter and guitarist Peter Tosh died on September 11, 1987.
The September 11 attacks in the United States
On the morning of September 11, 2001, hijackers crashed United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 11 into the north and south towers of the World Trade Center in New York City.
According to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, the 9/11 attacks left 2,977 people dead in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. The victims of 9/11 are memorialized at the site of the former World Trade Center towers. The names of the victims are engraved around pools based on their location at the time of the attacks.
The United States celebrates Patriot Day to commemorate the lives of those who died in these attacks.
1893 – Swami Vivekananda’s speech in Chicago: Swami Vivekananda addressed the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago, where he introduced Hindu philosophy and spirituality to a Western audience. His speech is credited with raising awareness and respect for Eastern philosophies in the West.
2007: Russia tests the “Father of all Bombs” – Russia tests the largest conventional weapon ever made, the Father of all Bombs. The highest yield aviation thermobaric bomb (ATBIP), nicknamed “Father of all Bombs”, is a Russian-designed, bomber-delivered thermobaric weapon. High explosive and a mixture of fine aluminum powder and ethylene oxide.
2011 – A dedication ceremony was held at the United States National Memorial on the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks in New York City, and the memorial was open to family members.
