9 in 10 CEOs in India want to link employee rewards, raises and promotions with return to office: survey

More than nine in 10 CEOs in India want to link rewards, raises or promotions to employees returning to the office as they look to incentivize office attendance, according to a KPMG survey released on October 3.

“91% of Indian CEOs, compared to 87% of CEOs globally, are prepared to reward employees who consistently come to the office with promotions, raises and more favorable assignments,” according to the KPMG 2024 CEO Outlook survey, adding that CEOs are reaffirming their stance on returning to pre-pandemic office work patterns.

Additionally, 78% of Indian CEOs, compared to 83% of CEOs globally, foresee a return to an office-based work environment for their employees within the next three years, the company added. survey. Improving the employee value proposition to attract and retain top talent will be its top operational priority, according to survey results.

“Indian CEOs are committed to improving the employee value proposition to attract and retain top talent. By rewarding work in the office and fostering a supportive environment, organizations can align employee satisfaction with long-term growth goals, nurture talent, ensure well-being and create a vibrant work culture,” concluded the survey.

Sunit Sinha, partner and head, Human Capital Advisory Solutions, KPMG Business Consulting in India, said that as the trend of employees reassessing their work preferences in the post-COVID-19 era gains momentum, it becomes imperative for companies to gain a comprehensive understanding of the talent landscape in India.

“By leveraging information such as talent availability, employee quality of life, and other similar metrics, companies can strategically position themselves and attract top talent while ensuring their needs are met. The power to shape the future of talent lies in staying informed and proactively adapting.”

Reflecting on the impact of generative AI on skill development, the survey found that 50% of CEOs in India equally emphasize the importance of developing workforce skills and capabilities along with technology investments.

Indian CEOs recognize the potential of generative AI to upskill and prepare the workforce. By integrating AI into operations, organizations can facilitate upskilling and foster diverse skills among employees. Emphasizing inclusivity in AI initiatives will enable all employees, regardless of background or seniority, to contribute meaningfully and ultimately drive transformation and growth within the organization, according to the report.

For the 10th edition of KPMG CEO Outlook, KPMG conducted a survey of 1,325 CEOs, of which 125 were from India, between July 25 and August 29, 2024.
