The domestic food market is expected to grow by over 47 per cent to reach $1.274 billion by 2027, according to a report released by the Confederation of Indian Industry and supported by Danfoss India.
India’s food processing industry is seeing the emergence of innovative startups with cutting-edge technology, according to a report titled ‘Food Processing Sector in India: Potential for Southern States’, published by CII, CII FACE (Confederation of Indian Industry – Centre of Excellence in Food and Agriculture) and Danfoss India.
Danfoss India is a leader in heating, ventilation and air conditioning and is the subsidiary of the leading Denmark-based engineering company, Danfoss.
Some of the highlights of the report, which was released at CII-FoodPro 2024, include the potential that southern states hold for the food processing industry.
“Tamil Nadu leads the export of processed fruits, juices and nuts from India, with a share of 33 per cent in quantity and 27 per cent in value, exporting 208,370 metric tonnes worth $220.81 million in 2023-24,” the report said.
Innovative startups with cutting-edge technology are emerging in India’s food processing industry, the report said.
The study provides insights into emerging trends, technologies and export opportunities that enable companies to make informed decisions and harness the potential of the sector.
“South India’s food processing sector is on the verge of a revolution, with innovative segments such as millets, ready-to-eat dairy products and plant-based alternatives opening up a treasure trove of economic opportunities for farmers. The newly released report reveals that technology holds the key to powering this growth, ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality, and propelling India’s exports to the global stage,” said Ravichandran Purushothaman, Chairman, National Council on Cold Chain and Agri-Logistics, CII.
“At Danfoss India, we are excited to be a part of this transformative journey, driving sustainable food processing solutions that will shape the future of India’s agriculture and food sector,” it said in a statement on Saturday.
During the event, the Danfoss Optyma Pack condensing unit was launched, a reliable and energy-efficient solution for bulk milk cooling and cold room applications.
“The Optyma Pack condensing unit is a game-changer for the dairy industry and cold storage applications in India. Its unique design and reliable performance will significantly help meet our customers’ cost and sustainability goals,” said Madhur Sehgal, Sales Director, Danfoss Climate Solutions, India region.
The innovative technology ensures optimal milk temperatures with minimal energy consumption, thereby reducing carbon footprint, addressing critical dairy processing challenges and supporting India’s sustainable food production goals, the statement added.
