This move of having two SSLC exams is aimed at providing a second chance to students who failed in the board exam.

“From early 2025, MBOSE will conduct two SSLC board exams every year. The first exam will be held in February or early March, and the second will allow students who fail all or some subjects to retake the exam in one or two months, which will be in May,” Sangma said.

The Education Minister said this move is in line with the ongoing implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and is designed to support students by reducing the time lost between attempts.

The Cabinet also approved the decision to do away with the optional exam or “best of five exams” from the academic year 2026-2027, meaning that all students from the academic year 2026-2027 will have to pass all six subjects in the board exam.
