On Saturday, 24 PGTs, 270 interns and 60 house staff protested by closing the Open Patient Department (OPD) at Bankura Hospital here. The young doctors of the hospital erupted in anger at this. These people came to the hospital and expressed strong protests against the RG Kar incident. The doctors and other healthcare workers demanded justice for the lady doctor murdered at RG Kar and strict punishment for the culprit. Besides, the state government was also demanded to strengthen the security of doctors and healthcare workers at hospitals.

There is a lot of anger among doctors over the incident. Protests were held outside Bankura Hospital for a long time. The outdoor services at the South Bengal government medical centre remained suspended since morning in protest against the shameful incident at the large government hospital in North Kolkata. The indoor services also remained disrupted.

It has been said that only the emergency department is fully functional. Questions are also being raised over the safety of doctors at the Bankura hospital. Dr Saubhik Rai and Sushma Bhakta of the private college complained that the incident at the Kolkata government hospital is highly condemnable. The killers should be caught and punished severely. There are also many lapses in the security system of Bankura Hospital, which should be rectified in time. Dr Saptarshi Chatterjee, vice-president of Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital, said that after the incident at RG Kar Hospital, doctors and other healthcare workers protested. For security reasons, more CCTV cameras should be installed at Bankura Medical College. There should be strict monitoring of people entering and leaving the hospital. The agitating doctors said that the protest will continue till their demands are met.
