Srinagar: Security forces were involved in a gunfight with terrorists in a remote forest in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district early on Sunday, officials said.
The gunfight began after the terrorists opened fire on police and army personnel guarding a bridge and its adjacent area at Padyaran, about 25 km from Kishtwar.
This is the place from where people cross the Chenab River using ropes.
“A brief exchange of fire took place between terrorists and security forces in the area of Kishtwar police station. The search operation is continuing,” the police said in a statement.
The area has three major power projects: Kwar, Kerru and Pakal. The Dool power project is located within a radius of 5-10 km, while the 390 MW Dool Hasti project is also located in the same area.
Reinforcements have been sent to the area and an operation is underway to hunt down the terrorists.
The latest clash comes a day after two army personnel were killed and six others, including two civilians, were injured in a fierce gunfight in the forests of Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
