“I wear it like a T-shirt, not a tuxedo”
Shahrukh He was asked how he deals with stardom, given that he is one of the most talented actors in the country. He said, “I come from a background where if I touch people’s lives, there is nothing more important. I have never understood stardom; I want to give them joy. I am like a monkey; I will do anything for you. When people like me for that, it makes me happy. Everyone has a life, but they take time out to love me. Stardom is just a byproduct of that, but it is all about me and them.”
The actor also stated that stardom “It’s not important” to him, but he “respects” it, reaffirming that he’s just doing what he loves in the hopes that he can spread joy in people’s lives. “Stardom is not important; I respect it. I always say that I wear it like a T-shirt, not a tuxedo. I don’t need to understand it or own it. The day I don’t spread joy, it won’t matter. I try not to be a star; I just try to be myself on and off screen.”
‘We are a normal family’
Talking about his family, Shah Rukh said that his family asks him if he doesn’t get tired of doing the same thing for over three decades. He said, “I know I am limited. I don’t have the range that the most talented actors have, but I don’t want to give up. My family asks me how I don’t get tired. Acting keeps me happy, not because I am the centre of attention, but because I can bring joy to someone I may never meet. I hate wearing makeup (for work), but I do it.”
The actor also stated that even though from the outside it looks like he has a “rock star life”, his goal is to have a normal and simple life at home. “Beyond my stunning looks (smiles) and my stardom, we are a normal family. I know it looks strange and different from the outside. But I want my children (Aryan Khan, Suhana KhanAbRam) to be humble about their privileges. The wife (Gauri Khan) maintains balance with his wisdom. At the heart of everything is simplicity. I am simply someone who found a way to spread happiness, that is why they support me,” he added.
