Sanjay was associated with the gang of runners active in hospitals.

Kolkata: New revelations are being made about civic volunteer Sanjay Roy arrested in the RG Tax incident. It is said that during the investigation, the police came to know that Sanjay was associated with a gang of middlemen active in government hospitals in Kolkata. The relatives of the patients were told that they would get a bed in the hospital only when they came in touch with Sanjay. According to sources, Sanjay’s main job was to join the Kolkata Police Welfare Committee and help the policemen and their relatives in the hospital. For this job he used to go to RG, NRS and Medical College. He was also in touch with middlemen active in many government hospitals in the city. Besides, he also knew the hospital officials. It is alleged that Sanjay used to collect money through middlemen on behalf of the admitted patients. He used to introduce himself as a policeman before the families of the patients. He used to roam around with a police sticker on his bike. Police are trying to find out whether the said bike was purchased from any police officer or police authority or whether the police had allotted it to Sanjay. He also used to charge huge amounts from people in order to provide them jobs in government hospitals. Police said efforts are also being made to identify middlemen associated with Sanjay in at least four major government hospitals in Kolkata.
