According to Sedgwick, a motorcyclist once reported picking up a hitchhiker who asked for a ride to Leigh-on-Sea in Essex. The motorcyclist was stunned when the passenger disappeared upon reaching the end of the tunnel. Driven by curiosity, the motorcyclist visited the address provided by the hitchhiker and met a woman who told him about a tragic 1960 motorcycle accident that claimed the life of a young man.
In addition to Sedgwick’s account, a letter published in the Fortean Times in 1994 recounts a disturbing occurrence connected to the tunnel. The letter describes a sound that reportedly began exactly one week after the fatal accident at 2 a.m., further cementing the tunnel’s reputation as a site of paranormal activity.
