The video, which has been circulating on social media, shows the chimpanzee dressed in casual attire: a sweatshirt, jeans and sneakers. When the delivery girl knocks on the door, the chimp opens it and comes out to collect the pizza order. The moment is captured on camera and reveals the chimp handing over the payment with surprising serenity.
The footage, captured by a CCTV camera and later shared on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption “Chimpanzee paying for pizza delivery in Russia,” shows the chimp handling the transaction with surprising ease.
Chimpanzees are renowned for their intelligence and scientific research indicates that their cognitive abilities are comparable to those of humans.
In a surprising discovery, “chimpanzees possess the neural elements necessary for speech,” the New York Post reported. “The vocal production capacity of great apes has been underestimated,” the article said.
In a recent video from the Suncoast Primate Center in Palm Harbour, Florida, a chimpanzee named Johnny is seen saying a word in exchange for a red Twizzler, after receiving a prompt from a keeper.
Researchers said Johnny had learned that saying “Mama” would get him whatever he wanted, as long as he stuck to his diet.
