An Indian influencer is facing a massive backlash on social media after sharing her experience of meeting a… dog meat Dog meat is being sold on the streets of China. The video, which has generated a lot of attention online, has been branded as “offensive.” The clip begins with influencer Bakshi filming a street vendor cooking in a large container. Curiously, Bakshi turns the camera on a neighbor and asks what he is cooking. The neighbor confirms that it is “dog meat.” Shocked, Bakshi films a dog caged inside an open vehicle.
Bakshi then speaks to a local to find out more about dog meat consumption. He claims that only 20-30% of the local population consumes it, adding, “It is changing now; people are moving away from it and many don’t eat it anymore.” Sharing the video on Instagram, Bakshi wrote, “Dog meat is a common food in the southern part of China in many cultures. You can find the same in many other countries like Thailand, Vietnam, India, etc.”
The video has been widely condemned on social media. Reactions include:
One person commented: “What’s the difference between dog meat, goat meat, cow meat or pig meat? A murder is a murder and a corpse is just a corpse. There’s no need to worry too much about it.”
Another Instagram user, Sonali, wrote: “I find it so disgusting to see people accepting barbaric practices and calling it ‘the beauty of travel’. Before anyone accuses me of ignoring local culture, A) they don’t live in the Amazon to kill an innocent animal for survival, and B) there is absolutely no excuse for torturing animals in 2024. Eating a dog is no different than eating a chicken, goat, cow, or fish.”
