Harbhajan Singh skips India vs Sri Lanka series to watch Olympics, says ‘I’m just watching…’

Days after Charith Asalanka led Sri Lanka defeated the Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma In the three ODI matches 2-0 in Colombo, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh said he had not seen a single cricket ball during the India versus Sri Lanka series as he was only watching the Olympics.

Harbhajan even gave credit to Sri Lanka on the incredible victory against India.

“To be honest, I haven’t seen a single cricket ball during the India versus Sri Lanka series because I was just watching the Olympics. It was one of those things where sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It’s sports after all. Every cricketer goes through such periods. You play well, but you still don’t win. I’ll give credit to Sri Lanka. They played well. They played better than India. They have done better than India to achieve a rare series win against India.” PTI quoted Harbhajan as saying.

The former spinner even mentioned that India’s bowling was not at its best during the series without Jasprit Bumrah.

He added: “India’s bowling was not at its best during the series without Bumrah. But they had Kohli, Rohit… a great batting line-up with KL Rahul coming back. It’s a good achievement for Sri Lankan cricket. Hopefully Team India will get back on track.”

About Rohit and Virat:

Meanwhile, Harbhajan spoke about the fitness of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

According to him, Kohli, with his excellent fitness, can easily survive the rigours of international cricket for another five years.

On Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan said that he will last at least a couple more years.

“Rohit can easily play for two more years. You never know with Virat Kohli’s fitness, he might compete for five years. He is probably the fittest player in the team,” Harbhajan said. PTI.

“If you ask any 19-year-old who is competing with Virat (about his fitness), Virat will beat him. He is in very good form. I think Virat and Rohit have a lot of cricket left to play and it is totally up to them. If they are fit, perform and the team wins, they should continue to play. It’s that simple,” Harbhajan said.

The former spinner believed that Test cricket is a format where both are needed.

“In red-ball cricket, you really need these two lads to play a bit more than what people are asking them to. You need experience across all formats, be it limited-overs cricket or Test cricket. You need experienced cricketers to nurture the talent that is coming through,” Singh said.

“Selectors should keep in mind that if someone is not performing well, he should be dropped, be it a senior player or a junior player. But as long as everyone is fit, they should be eligible for selection in the team,” Singh added.
