People demonstrated in front of the factory demanding jobs

Jamudiya.

Years ago, land was taken from the people to build a factory in Hijalgoda village in Block 2 under Jamudiya assembly constituency. But even after so many years, the factory remains half-built. The factory is still not fully constructed and is yet to be operational. On Monday, the Hijalgora Village Defence Committee protested in front of the factory gate demanding to start the factory soon and provide employment to the local unemployed. During this, local resident youth leader Jual Kazi said that 15 years ago in 2009, the Rashmi Group took the land from the people of Hijalgoda village to set up a factory. During the land acquisition, the management had assured that the people of the village would get employment opportunities. But nothing of the sort has happened till date. He said that in the talks held with the factory management six months ago, it was said that 200 people would be given employment in the factory, but the factory management did not fulfil the promise. The movement will continue peacefully till the management gives a positive response. Palash Banerjee, senior manager (land) of Rashmi Factory, said that the project is stuck as only four to five family members whose land is not being settled.

He said that 38.5 acres of government land was purchased by paying Rs 22 crore and the approval for 15.5 acres of land will be received soon after receiving the green signal from the Land Revenue Department of the state government. The land acquisition work is still going on. But due to some people the work on the project is stalled.
