Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal for a silver medal is pending a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Indian wrestler was disqualified from the 2024 Olympics after being found overweight at the second weigh-in ahead of her gold medal match.

Vinesh, who had filed an appeal for a silver medal at the CAS, was asked two questions by the sole arbitrator, Hon’ble Dr Annabelle Bennett, to which the wrestler and her team will respond. As reported by India TV Sports Editor Samip Rajguru, the wrestler and her team were asked to state in writing whether they were aware that she would be weighed twice at the 2024 Olympics. Further, Vinesh was also asked to write that she is willing to share her silver medal at the Games. Vinesh and her team have to respond to this and the response is awaited.

Vinesh filed an appeal for a shared silver medal after being disqualified before her final bout at the Olympics. The decision on her hearing was scheduled for August 10, but was later delayed until August 13.

At the second weigh-in on the day of the final, Vinesh was 100 grams overweight in his 50kg category. Vinesh worked very hard to lose weight after his semi-final victory. He was about 2kg overweight and managed to lose most of it, but 100 grams cost him dearly. He was later denied a medal.

Watch Samip Rajguru reveal the two questions Vinesh asked him:

The Indian Olympic Association was hopeful that the wrestler would secure a medal. “The Indian Olympic Association was hopeful that the complaint of wrestler Vinesh Phogat before the Ad Hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for failing to pass the weigh-in on the second day of her women’s 50kg wrestling competition at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 would be resolved positively,” the IOA statement said.

“As the matter is sub iudice, the IOA can only state that the Sole Arbitrator, Dr Annabelle Bennett AC SC (Australia), heard all parties, the applicant Vinesh Phogat, the respondents United World Wrestling and the International Olympic Committee, as well as the IOA as an interested party for three hours,” it added.
