Following recent IT outages globally, Google appears to be experiencing internet disruptions on Monday. Problems appear to have been reported globally, with many users taking to social media to describe difficulties performing simple searches, accessing emails or checking their calendars. Instead of these services, users saw a warning message on their screens indicating an “error.”
Fall detectorA website that tracks online outages quickly recorded the spike in complaints, with the graph peaking around 9 a.m. Eastern Time. The cause of the problems remains unknown, but they appear to have been resolved for some users. The outages affected Google Maps, Calendar, Cloud, Drive, Meet and Hangouts.
One user wrote: “Who turned off Google and forgot to turn it back on?” while another posted: “Debugging why the internet isn’t working at the office… oh turns out it’s just… Google is downAnother agreed: “I tried googling if Google is down… I think I answered my own question.”
In the US, 57% of reported issues were related to search problems, 31% to website issues, and 11% to Google Drive. Google-owned YouTube has also been affected by the outage, along with other Google Workspace services such as Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Meet.
It’s worth noting that Google did not immediately release a statement about the service outage, and its Workspace status website continued to indicate that all Google Workspace services were available. While some of these services experienced outages late last week, they were quickly resolved.
Despite some claims from onlookers, the outage is not related to the faulty CrowdStrike update that disrupted most Microsoft services just a few weeks ago. The sun reported.
The July 19 outage affected hundreds of services on an unprecedented scale, cancelling flights, disrupting emergency services and cancelling hospital appointments, as well as affecting newsrooms, broadcasters and businesses around the world.
