Vinesh Phogat leaves the Paris Olympic Village ahead of the CAS verdict | Video

One day before the historic Final verdict of the Court of Arbitration for Sport Following Indian wrestling star Vinesh Phogat’s plea not to be disqualified from the Paris Olympics, Vinesh was spotted leaving the Olympic village in Paris on Monday.

She was seen leaving the village as the Paris 2024 Olympic Games concluded on August 11 along with two other athletes.

CAS verdict of 13 August:

According to details from the Indian Olympic Association, the final verdict of the Court of Arbitration for Sport will be announced by 6:00 pm (9:30 pm IST) on August 13, 2024.

“The ad hoc division of the CAS has extended the deadline for the sole arbitrator, the Honourable Dr Annabelle Bennett, in the case of Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling and the International Olympic Committee to render her decision until 6:00 pm on 13 August 2024,” the IOA said in its statement on Saturday.

What PT Usha said:

The president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Dr. PT Usha clarified on Sunday that the responsibility for weight management of athletes in sports such as wrestling, weightlifting, boxing and judo rests with each athlete and their coach and not with the IOA-appointed Chief Medical Officer, Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala and his team.

Dr Usha said that every Indian athlete participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics in that sport has his or her own support team. These support teams have been working with the athletes for many years, according to an IOA statement.

Support from Olympic gold medalist:

Several Olympic gold medals have begun to speak openly about weight cutting practices, particularly in women’s wrestling.

Olympic gold medalist Amit Elor is one such fighter who highlighted the unnecessary physical and mental toll that weight-cutting practices take on athletes.

According to her, weight cutting should not be promoted or encouraged, as it can negatively affect the athlete’s performance.

Talking with USA TODAY SportsShe said: “It’s something that a lot of times, if you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time, can be very overhyped and very unnecessary, especially from a young age.”
