Washington:Former President of the United States and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held a conversation with SpaceX founder Elon Musk, marking his notable return to the social media platform X on Tuesday.
During the conversation, Trump recalled a harrowing moment from his past: the assassination attempt he survived in Butler, Pennsylvania. At a campaign rally there, Trump was shot in the ear, while one bystander was killed and two others were wounded. The attacker, Thomas Matthew Crooks, attempted to take Trump’s life but was shot dead in a counterattack with the Secret Service.
Trump revealed that the Secret Service sniper was unaware of the situation at the time, declaring, “I have to take my hat off to him,” in reference to the incident. Musk, speaking of the gravity of the situation, told Trump, “You can’t fake courage in such circumstances — courage is instinctive or it isn’t.”
Trump recounted his reaction to the attack and wanted to talk about his condition to Republican supporters at the rally, saying, “I wanted to get up and let them know I was OK and they went nuts.” When asked about the assassination attempt, Trump described it as “not nice” and shared his immediate realization that he had been hit by a bullet in his right ear.
Trump concluded with a reflection on faith: “For those people who don’t believe in God, I think we all need to start thinking about that.”
“I didn’t know he had that much blood,” Trump said of the shooting, though he also said it was the “best alternative I could think of” since he was not more seriously injured.
“I’m a believer now. I believe in God more,” Trump said after the shooting.
