With Independence Day Just around the corner, the Delhi Police has implemented strict traffic restrictions and diversions to ensure the smooth running of the celebrations. The measures, which came into effect on August 12, will remain in place till August 15.

Heavy vehicles are banned and routes are diverted

To control the expected influx of people into the national capital, heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) have been banned from entering Delhi from 10 pm on August 12 to 12 pm on August 13, and again from 10 pm on August 14 to 12 pm on August 15. This decision is aimed at reducing congestion on roads and facilitating the movement of commuters.

Several bus routes have also been modified. Buses plying between ISBT and Faridabad (Badarpur) will either terminate at Sarai Kale Khan or take a detour via the ring road. Also, buses heading to Loni border will use the Wazirabad bridge, while those heading to Ghaziabad will take the ISBT bridge.

Local city buses, including DTC, will not ply on Ring Road from midnight to 11 pm on Thursday between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Ring Road, NH-24, NH ‘T’-point (Nizamuddin Khatta) and will take alternative routes available, the notice said.

Public notice

Delhi Police has urged citizens to cooperate with traffic restrictions and follow instructions of duty personnel. Essential service providers have been advised to stock up on necessary essentials like oxygen cylinders in advance to avoid any inconvenience during the period.

If you are travelling to Delhi, plan your trip in advance and, if possible, avoid travelling within the city on Independence Day. Public transport, especially the metro, is the best mode of transport within the city during this time.
