Maruti Suzuki starts exporting Fronx SUV to Japan

Maruti Suzuki Fronx on sale in India at a starting price of Rs 7.51 lakh (ex-showroom)

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) launched the Forehead In the Indian market, by 2023, the SUV has been climbing the ranks in terms of popularity in the Indian market. Now, the automaker is planning to expand its reach to the Japanese market as well. As per the latest announcement, MSIL has started exporting the Indian-made Fronx SUV to Japan. With this, the model has become the first Maruti Suzuki SUV to be launched in Japan.

Giving a boost to the Make In India initiative, the Maruti Suzuki Frontx It is a model manufactured exclusively at the brand’s plant in Gujarat. The brand announced that the first shipment of more than 1,600 units has left for Japan from the port of Pipavav in Gujarat.

With this, the Fronx becomes the second model from the brand to be exported from India to Japan. The first model to be exported was the Baleno in 2016. This development comes ahead of the launch of the Fronx in Japan, scheduled for autumn 2024 by Maruti Suzuki’s parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation.

Speaking on this achievement, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “I am proud to announce that our ‘Made-in-India’ Fronx will soon be seen on the roads of Japan. Japan is one of the most advanced and quality-conscious automobile markets in the world. Our exports to Japan are a testament to Maruti Suzuki’s ability to manufacture world-class vehicles that exemplify cutting-edge technology, exceptional performance, internationally recognised safety and quality standards.”

He added, “This underlines our firm commitment to excellence. The Fronx embodies the best of engineering, finesse of design and is a model of excellence in Indian car manufacturing. I am sure it will be well received by Japanese customers.”

In the fiscal year 2023-24, Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading exporter of passenger vehicles, shipped over 280,000 units to over 100 countries. The company has a 42 per cent share in the country’s passenger vehicle exports. During the first quarter of the fiscal year 2024-25, Maruti Suzuki set a new record by exporting 70,560 units, marking the highest Q1 export performance in the company’s history.
