The ninth edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2024 was released by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi on Monday.
In the engineering category, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras topped the list. After IIT Madras, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay occupied the second and third positions on the list.
In the Dentistry category, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences from Tamil Nadu was ranked first, Manipal College of Dental Sciences from Manipal and Dr DY Patil Vidyapeeth from Maharashtra were ranked second and third.
In the pharmacy category, the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Hyderabad topped the list. It was followed by Jamia Hamdard, Delhi and Birla Institute of Technology & Science – Pilani, which occupied the second and third positions on the list.

The NIRF rankings are based on a methodology that involves a set of parameters that help in ranking the institutes. The parameters are teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcome, outreach and inclusion, and perception.
This year, three new categories have been included in the list: state universities, specialized universities and open universities. The other categories include universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and related sectors, and innovation.
