Kailash Gehlot will hoist the tricolour in place of Kejriwal in Delhi on August 15.

Independence Day 2024: There is a new update in the ongoing controversy over hoisting the flag in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has nominated Delhi Home Minister Kailash Gehlot for hoisting the flag on the Independence Day celebrations. Gehlot is the Home Minister of the Delhi government. Gehlot will hoist the flag in place of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Arvind Kejriwal had written a letter to the Lieutenant Governor

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is lodged in Tihar Jail in a money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor scam, had written a letter to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena last week, saying that Cabinet Minister Atishi will instead hoist the national flag during the Delhi government’s Independence Day programme. The Lieutenant Governor’s office claimed that it had not received any message from the Chief Minister. Moreover, the Tihar Jail authorities informed Kejriwal that his letter to Saxena was an abuse of the privileges granted to him under the jail rules.

The General Administration Department rejected Atishi’s proposal

The General Administration Department (GAD) of the Delhi government had rejected Atishi’s proposal to hoist the flag in place of Arvind Kejriwal. Following which the controversy escalated. There was a strong reaction from the Aam Aadmi Party.

Atishi told LG as viceroy

Atishi said in a press conference that the elected government and the Chief Minister have the right to hoist the flag on Independence Day in Delhi. But he is still in judicial custody, so being a minister he asked me to hoist the flag. For this, the Chief Minister wrote a letter and ordered that being a minister I should hoist the flag on August 15, but the officials refused to accept this order also. Atishi, attacking the Lt Governor, said that today the elected government of Delhi is being prevented from the right to hoist the flag, so it seems that a new viceroy has come to Delhi. LG Saheb is preventing the elected government of Delhi from hoisting the flag. What could be a bigger dictatorship than this? Now we have to see whether the BJP is for democracy or for dictatorship.
