India ended its participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics with six medals in total. The 117-member contingent took home the laurels for France as India recorded its second-best medal tally at the Summer Games.

As the nation celebrates the athletes, India TV has been continuously interacting with them. Our Sports Editor Samip Rajguru has met Indian Ambassador to France Jawed Ashraf and had a detailed interaction with him.

Speaking on various facets, the ambassador also spoke about the performance of Indian athletes at the Games and stressed how the nation should not forget these athletes.

“As India moves towards the Olympics, I would like to request the viewers not to forget these athletes. It should not be like this, the Olympics are over, we should forget about the athletes and come back to them at the Los Angeles Games in four years,” he told India TV’s Sports Editor Samip Rajguru.

“We need to prioritise all sports as we are focusing on cricket. We need to create market incentives. Obviously, as the fan base grows, an ecosystem will develop where we will have sponsorships and incentives.

“It is our duty to keep the spotlight on them. Athletes must not be left in the dark. This must not happen,” he said.

India bagged five bronze and one silver medal at the Games. The shooting contingent bagged three medals, of which two were won by Manu Bhaker. Wrestling kept its streak intact with Aman Sehrawat winning a bronze.

The men’s hockey team also won a bronze medal, while Neeraj Chopra claimed his second consecutive medal at the Games. He took silver in the javelin throw.

Shooting was the highlight for India at the Games. After failing to secure any medals at the previous two summer Games, Indian shooters bagged three medals at the individual Games, with Manu Bhaker winning two. Neeraj Chopra bagged another medal in javelin, this time a silver, while the men’s hockey team bagged another bronze. Aman kept the wrestling streak intact with a bronze.
