KEY POINTS

  • Captain Ruud Van Pangemanan filmed several UFOs exhibiting erratic and unpredictable movements as they flew from Jeddah to Abuja.
  • The images revealed objects that varied in brightness and did not align with known satellites, ruling out conventional explanations.
  • The incident has sparked widespread public interest and comparisons to previous UFO sightings, including the Phoenix Lights of 1997.

Pilots aboard a Boeing 747 reported witnessing and filming several unidentified flying objects (UFOs) maneuvering in the night sky in a manner considered impossible for manmade aircraft. Captain Ruud Van Pangemanan, also a vlogger, was operating the flight from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Abuja, Nigeria at 5 a.m. when the phenomenon occurred.

Van Pangemanan described an extremely vivid, star-like object that appeared to move erratically. He observed a sudden streak in the sky below the object, which he described as “dancing.” The UFO exhibited rapid changes in altitude, dropping rapidly before returning to its original height. Van Pangemanan wondered, “Is it falling?” as the phenomenon played out on the right wing of his plane.

The object displayed unpredictable movement patterns, including random changes in direction with no clear pattern, reminiscent of UFOs depicted in popular media such as “The X-Files.” The UFO’s bright light varied in intensity, intermittently flickering and fading. Enhanced footage, later re-uploaded to Reddit, revealed several similar objects in the sky. Pilots were heard identifying these objects as UFOs.

In the images, Van Pangemanan recorded at least three bright objects, which he said could be as many as four. These objects were aligned in a formation similar to the Phoenix Lights, a remarkable UFO sighting over Arizona in 1997 that remains unexplained. The pilot dismissed conventional explanations, saying the objects did not appear on radar and exhibited motion inconsistent with known stars or satellites.

Van Pangemanan refuted the possibility that the objects were satellites, particularly in light of frequent misidentifications of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites as UFOs. “It’s impossible for a satellite to move like that,” he said.

The incident generated a great deal of interest, with several viewers commenting on Van Pangemanan’s YouTube video blog. One commenter from Brazil reported seeing a similar object on 10 August 2024, describing it as floating and moving in their direction. Another person from the UK shared their experience of frequently seeing lights in the sky that became bright in a manner similar to that seen in the footage.

The images captured by Captain Van Pangemanan have drawn attention to the current discussion about UFOs and their possible explanations, further fueling public interest and speculation.
