After 12 years, that is, by the year 2036, India’s population will cross 152 (152.2) crores. India is already the most populous country in the world, surpassing China. These figures were revealed in the report ‘Women and Men in India 2023’ released on Monday by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation. In this report, along with the population of the country, the sex ratio and the population of women in the country in the coming times have also been mentioned. This report has revealed that the participation of women in startups has increased.

The sex ratio will improve

According to the report, the sex ratio in India is expected to increase from 943 women per 1000 men in 2011 to 952 women per 1000 men in 2036. This figure shows positivity in gender equality. At the same time, this report also revealed that by 2036, the population of women will increase by 0.3% to 48.8%. In the 2011 census, the population of women was 48.5%.

Increase in women’s participation in voting

According to the report, till the 15th general election (1999), less than 60 percent of women voters participated, while the voting percentage of men was eight percent higher than them. However, there was a significant change in the 2014 elections, with women’s participation increasing to 65.6 percent, and it further increased to 67.2 percent in the 2019 elections. For the first time, the voting percentage for women was slightly higher, reflecting the impact of increasing literacy and political awareness among women.

The number of elderly people may increase

Government data show that the proportion of people under 15 years of age is projected to decline by 2036 compared to 2011, while the proportion of the population aged 60 years and above is projected to increase substantially. It is expected that the decline in the proportion of people under 15 years of age will probably be due to a decline in fertility.
