Gwalior will host the inaugural T20 International between India and Bangladesh scheduled for October 6 instead of Dharamsala where the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association is carrying out renovation work, the BCCI said on Tuesday.

“The first T20I between India and Bangladesh, initially scheduled to be held at Dharamsala on 6 October 2024, will now be held at Gwalior due to the upgrades and renovation works being undertaken at the changing rooms by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association,” the BCCI said in a press release.

The match in Gwalior marks the inaugural international fixture at the city’s new stadium, the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, and the first since the historic India-South Africa ODI in 2010, where the legendary Sachin Tendulkar became the first male cricketer to score a double century in ODIs.

The BCCI has also agreed to swap venues for the first and second T20Is against England in January next year.

Chennai, originally scheduled to host the first T20I, will now host the second, while Kolkata will host the inaugural T20I instead of the second, as announced earlier.

The dates of the first Q20I (22 January 2025) and the second Q20I (25 January 2025) remain the same.

The change of venue was necessitated following a request from the Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) regarding its previous Republic Day commitments and obligations.
